Admissions Process

We take a personal approach to admissions, welcoming you to our school and providing you and your child with the opportunity to experience Millwood School firsthand. Prospective families should get acquainted with our school by taking the following steps:
  • Browse our website, including the Discover Millwood page.
  • Request our viewbook by completing the online inquiry form or calling the school at (804) 639-3200 for your copy.
  • Schedule an appointment for a private tour anytime with Janice Jennings, Director of Admissions, to tour the school.

Detailed Admissions Process (click on grade to view further details)

Junior Kindergarten
  1. Submit a completed application and non-refundable $80 registration fee.
  2. Submit the Teacher Recommendation Form to the applicant's current preschool teacher (if applicable). Ask that the form be completed and returned directly to the Director of Admissions.
  3. Once the above steps are completed, you will be contacted to schedule a Readiness Evaluation to be given at Millwood School.  The evaluation includes a brief interview and the Bracken School Readiness Assessment.
  4. Arrange a results appointment through our Director of Admissions to discuss the admission decision.
All students entering Junior Kindergarten must be four years old by September 30.  Please note that entrance into Junior Kindergarten does not guarantee admission into Kindergarten.
Kindergarten
  1. Submit a completed application and non-refundable $80 application and testing fee.
  2. Complete and submit the Kindergarten Readiness Checklist.
  3. Submit the Teacher Recommendation Form.  Give the form to the applicant's current teacher. Ask that the form be completed and returned directly to the Director of Admissions.
  4. Once the above steps are completed, you will be contacted to schedule a Readiness Evaluation to be given at Millwood School.  The evaluation includes a brief interview and the Bracken School Readiness Assessment.
  5. Arrange a results appointment through our Director of Admissions to discuss the admission decision.
Grades 1-8
  1. Submit a completed application and non-refundable $80 application and testing fee.
  2. Submit the Teacher Recommendation Form. Give the form to the applicant's current teacher. Ask that the form be completed and returned directly to the Director of Admissions.
  3. Submit Permission to Release Information Form. After signing the Permission to Release form, give it to the applicant's current school. The registrar should submit the student's transcript directly to the Director of Admissions.
  4. Submit Administrative Recommendation Form. Give the form to the applicant's current school.  Ask that the form be completed by an administrator and returned directly to the Director of Admissions. 
  5. Once the above steps are completed, you will be contacted to schedule a visit. The visit includes the opportunity to experience a day as a Millwood School student, a brief interview and the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test given by the Director of Admissions, and math and English writing placement testing with the hosting classroom teacher.
  6. Arrange a results appointment through our Director of Admissions to discuss the admission decision.
Grades 9-12
  1. Submit a completed application and non-refundable $80 application and testing fee.
  2. Submit Teacher Recommendation Form to an English teacher. Give the form to the applicant's current English teacher. Ask that the form be completed and returned directly to the Director of Admissions.
  3. Submit Teacher Recommendation Form to a Math teacher. Give the form to the applicant's current Math teacher. Ask that the form be completed and returned directly to the Director of Admissions.
  4. Submit Administrative Recommendation Form. Give the form to the applicant's current school. Ask that the form be completed by an administrator and returned directly to the Director of Admissions.
